The problem: A cat who won't be pet.
Aha! I have an idea. Perhaps Mina would benefit from a social story. The results:

Woah. I should use social stories more often.

Who cares if the cat won't let anyone pet it... it can read! (Heehee.) I was totally laughing at the cat "reading" the story. Maybe getting pet is just boring. Or maybe it would let you pet it if you were holding a book in front of it to read... it's really hard to hold books with paws! :)

(I guess I'm just in a silly mood right now as I read my comment.)

Will have to try Stefani's suggestion - will get back to you. Silly cat! Or maybe I should say smartycat but in actuality she is just a fraidycat!

Love the picture series. How long did you have to wait for Mina to read the story? Next question, who is actually petting Mina? At least she cooperates some times.

Ha ha! Great comments! I've been laughing all day about Stefani's comment!

Since Mina is such a creature of habit, I knew where to place the story so she would stop and read it. The key is to make sure the reading of the story is as non-threatening as possible.

The final picture was taken as I was falling asleep. Mina actually came and sat on my lap as I was drifting off to sleep. Fortunately I keep my camera on my bed side table (don't you?) so I could capture the success.

Mina was happy to let me pet her when I took her picture last year. Maybe you just need to satisfy her need for photography and then she'll be more friendly.
